If I remember correctly I'm sure the above signee, F/O Hunter was the Officer in charge of the convoy returning to Butterworath from live firing on China Rock off Singapore. We started with a sizable convoy mainly three toners pulling L70s. As I recall nearly every stop we made some body would run into the back of another, putting the gun barrel through their radiator. In Ipoh we came to a round-a-bout I was driving Mr. Hunter along with Tony Nash who at this time was having a kip in the back. The Boss directed me off an exit from the round-a-bout but only the Matador being the slowest vehicle was just behind us followed, the others went off on an other exit, you know the usual good old convoy stuff. Traveling down this incline Mr. Hunter told me to stop and wait for the others, after stopping we turned round to see the Matador hurtling down the incline with look of sheer terror on the drivers face, Pete, I can't remember his last name, he was holding the steering wheel with one hand and gesturing to us with the other to get going, it was at this point myself and the boss, (Tony was still asleep,) realised the Matador was in trouble, so I slammed the Landrover in to gear brought up the clutch and I only went and stalled the bloody thing, by this time the Matador was right on us and just at the last second Pete swerved to the left clipped our rear near side, just where Tony was sitting asleep, I say was, Because by now he was awake, WIDE AWAKE!! and if he did not shit himself he couldn't have been far off it. We eventually got back to Butterworth with two three toners and the Landrover...
